What's
StartUp?

SCAD StartUp is our annual, week-long design sprint hosted by FLUX - the UX club in collaboration with SCADpro.

You know when you get unshakeable ideas that basically prove you’re genius? Well, this is a chance for you to take those ideas and flesh them out with up to four other friends. We’ll give you the toolkit and resources needed to create a professional product or service concept in just under seven days. Make connections and get tips from real life designers, and pitch your solution to professional industry leaders. Who knows, maybe you’ll even take your product to launch!

It’s pretty much Shark Tank, just not on TV (yet).

Theme:

Giving a Voice

What is a voice? For some, a voice is a way to advocate for themselves or for their communities. For others, it’s a form of expression that brings people together. Think about the voices that you subscribe to and how it effects who you are. How can your team’s diverse skill set come together to give a voice?

Have any
Questions?

1. Can I participate?

To participate in StartUp, you must be a current SCAD student. All undergraduate and graduate students are invited to join the party. Any year, any major.

2. How are teams set up?

You’re more than welcome to plan your team ahead of time. Teams must be 2-5 people, and must represent a minimum of two different majors. Teams cannot exceed 5 students.

3. What if I don’t have a team?

No worries, you don’t need to have a team before coming to the Kickoff event. You’ll be able to meet new people at StartUp Sessions following the Kickoff, and we’ll help you find fellow geniuses to work with. Just make sure to notify us on the registration form.

4. Does my whole team have to sign up?

If you’re all set, only you have to register your team of up to four people. If you don’t have a team yet, register solo and you give us your final team list the day of Kickoff. We’ll be hosting a team formation workshop during StartUp Sessions for any participants still looking for a team.

5. And if I’m crowned champion?

Finalist teams will win cash prizes (amounts will be announced soon). You’ll also receive total bragging rights and other cool stuff. Most importantly, you’ll walk out with something badass to put on your resume & portfolio.

6. What if I forget to RSVP?

There’s still a chance! A standby line will open at the Kickoff for last minute entries. It’s first-come, first-serve.

7. How much does it cost?

It’s completely free.

8. Is this event for me?

Yes it is! Any SCAD student, in any major can participate. Leave your resume at home, we know you’ve got skill.

9. What should I bring to the Kickoff?

1. Your SCAD student ID.
2. Phone, laptop, chargers, etc.
3. Your final team name and members.
4. Any stuff that helps you design.
